About Monod Sports

No, this isn't us. This is John Monod (far right) making a ski movie called "Deep Powder" in the early '50's. Read on to learn more about John and Monod Sports.

...A little Bit About Who We Are

Monod Sports in an independent retailer located in Banff Alberta Canada showcasing the finest in mountain sports equipment and clothing.

We were established over 60 years ago by John Monod, a Swiss mountain guide and ski instructor. John was attracted to the spectacular Canadian Rockies by a sense of pioneering spirit and love of the mountains. He set up his 1st shop at Sunshine Lodge (now known as Sunshine Village ski Area) in 1949. The Sunshine operation was based out of a tiny back country lodge where he would take skiers on guided trips combined with ski instruction. After skiing, he would open his ski shop, offering specialized mountain equipment and clothing not yet available in North America and exclusively imported (by him) from Europe.  His retail operation quickly expanded to Banff and surrounding area and quickly became the leading source in Canada for quality products and expert advice.

In 1982, John sold the business to his 3 sons Phillip, Peter and Nick Monod. All accomplished skiers and ski racers. The Business operates today at 129 Banff Avenue in a large, beautifully appointed, award winning retail shop well stocked with the best in outdoor clothing and gear, footwear, sportswear, skis, ski racing products, fly fishing and much more.

The business model that John Monod established in 1949 was to provide quality products to quality minded people with good honest service and advice. To do that, Monod Sports remains a shop catering to clients one on one. We're not just a so called "stand alone web store".  Talking to our customers face to face is what gives us the experience and knowledge to provide our customers with the highest level of service.

Our web site is an extension of our retail store and together, they proudly remain owner operated. We also firmly believe that we are able to provide exclusive service to our customers by not having multiple locations spread out across the country. If you want to see Monod Sports and all the staff that proudly stand behind the name, you have to come to Banff  and visit us,  and see for yourself what a premium outfitter of mountain sportswear and equipment in a mountain environment looks like.

Thankfully, for those who can't get to Banff, we have our website so we can bring the store to you!

So, who we are we,...really?

We are... Bjorn Neilsen - Lars Backman - Dana Degeer, Stacey Bates and Nic Monod, and of course, Peter and Nick Monod  + a proud team of unbelievable sales consultants, all ready to help you in any way they can.  You can call on any one of us, any time, to help you with your questions or needs.

By the way... Not only are you getting access to our handpicked selection of the best products, service and advise, we also guarantee our prices right across Canada, so you can rest assured that you will be well taken care of. That's how we take care of business... coming on 65 years.

From all of us, Thank You for visiting monodsports.com. We look forward to you giving us the chance to show you who we are and to serve you soon.

Legends like Reinhold Messner and Yvon Chouinard among others shopped in the store when passing through the Canadian Rockies on climbing trips

.
